Australian soprano Eleanor Lyons is the first prize winner of the 2013 International Obraztsova Singing Competition and has performed in Sydney, Tokyo, New York, Europe and Russia.

This season she made her debut as Mimí in La Boheme  (click for video) at the Hungarian State Opera as «an outstanding Mimi with excellent vocal-line throughout all registers. In a completely natural way she combined both radiant lyrical passages with wistful and, at the end wonderful floating Piani. Yet she also won the audience's heart through her intensive characterisation.»  (Online Merker, 2015)

Later this season she will debut Fiordiligi in Cosí fan tutte at the Mariinsky Theatre, St Petersburg.

Other highlights include singing the alien-robot ‘Finella’ in a new opera George by Australian composer Elena Katz-Chernin throughout Germany, a belcanto recital with the St Petersburg Philharmonic and singing Anne Truelove in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress at the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest.

Eleanor completed a postgraduate diploma at the Royal Northern College of Music as well as studying at the Mariinsky Academy of Young Singers and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where her teachers include Elena Obraztsova, Barry Ryan and Viktoria Dodoka. She has performed with various companies including Opera Australia and the Wexford Festival Opera.

Eleanor has been generously supported by the Australia Council for the Arts, the Ian Potter Cultural Trust, The PPCA Performer’s Trust, The Australian Business Arts Foundation, The Opus 50 Charitable Trust, The Leverhulme Trust and other valued benefactors.
